World Trophy Trial

World Mountain Running Trophy (WMRT)

The World Mountain Running Trophy is an annual championship event where the world’s best international mountain runners compete for their country. The championship course alternates between an uphill only running course and an uphill and downhill running course. The 2008 event will be held on an uphill only course in Switzerland in September, see ‘Links’ section of the website for more details.

Scotland has a fine tradition at the WMRT with previous world champions in Angela Mudge (2000) and Beverley Redfern (1990). Last year the highest placed Scots were Joe Symonds who was edged of the medals into 4th place in the senior men’s race and Mhairi Inglis who came 6th in the junior women’s race.

 

WMRT Selection

The Cairngorm Mountain Run event will be the major selection event from which the Scottish Teams for the WMRT will be selected, though current form from other races may be considered. The age range and maximum number of athletes selected for each category is as follows :

Senior Men (born before 1989) – Maximum 6 athletes

Senior Women (born before 1989) – Maximum 4 athletes

Junior Men (born within the years 1989/90/91/92) – Maximum 4 athletes

Junior Women (born within the years 1989/90/91/92) – Maximum 3 athletes

The selection race for each category will be

Senior Men – Cairngorm Mountain Run (Men’s Race) Start 13.00

Senior Women – Cairngorm Mountain Run (Women’s Race) Start 13.00

Junior Men - WMRT Junior Men Trial Race, Start 12.15

Junior Women - Junior Cairngorm Mountain Run, Start 12.00

Make sure you enter the correct race. The event is pre-entry only.

World Masters

The senior races will also incorporate a veteran competition, where the winner of each of the following categories will be awarded a Scottish International vest and shorts to compete in the World Masters Mountain Running event.

Vets categories (age on the day of the trial race)

Male : V40, V45, V50, V55, V60+

Female : V35, V40, V45, V50+

Please note, the World Masters is an open event and athletes are to self enter.

Eligibility

Only runners who have Scottish eligibility and are individual members of scottishathletics will be eligible for selection to the WMRT teams and for World Masters vests.
